Sports clubs across North Cork are being invited to apply for funding under the Texaco Support for Sport initiative, which has returned for its fifth year.
Sponsored by Valero Energy (Ireland) Limited, this program offers a total fund of €130,000, to be divided into €5,000 grants awarded to one deserving club in each of Ireland’s 26 counties.
Since its launch, the initiative has awarded over €500,000 to more than 100 sports clubs throughout Ireland.
Among the beneficiaries are four Cork clubs: Riverstown Amateur Boxing Club, Glanmire (2021); Rockbán Ladies Football and Camogie Club (2022); Bandon Ravens Basketball Club (2023); and Glanmire Ladies Basketball Club (2024).
The funding is open to clubs of all sizes, sporting disciplines, and demographics, including those that have applied in previous years but were not selected.
Launching the 2025 initiative, James Twohig, Director of Ireland Operations, Valero Energy (Ireland) Limited – the company that markets fuel in Ireland under the Texaco brand – described the programme as one that “provides a route to vital funding for those clubs and communities that need it most”.
Interested clubs should first register at www.TexacoSupportforSport.com and complete their application by January 31, 2025.
Applications must detail the club’s activity, its role in the community, and how the funds would be used.
To qualify, clubs must be properly constituted and hold a valid GS Exemption Number from the Office of the Revenue Commissioners.
Former Irish rugby international Donncha O’Callaghan will once again lead the adjudication process and ensure that successful clubs will represent a wide range of sports.
