Collinsville Set to Welcome New Casino with FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing Track
In a significant development, the Collinsville-based FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing facility in Illinois has received authorization to introduce a new casino, aiming for a grand opening aligned with the 2025 Kentucky Derby.

Ownership Transition Approved by Illinois Gaming Board
On Thursday, the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) greenlit the change of ownership from Fairmount Holdings, Inc. to Accel Entertainment. This approval paves the way for expanding gaming options at the racetrack. The inclusion of casino operations had been anticipated since Fairmount Park was designated as an authorized racino under Illinois’ gaming expansion legislation enacted in 2019.

“This represents a major step forward in enhancing our track’s offerings by evolving into a comprehensive racino model,” stated Lianne Adams from FanDuel. “The addition of this facility is expected to generate approximately 200 jobs within various sectors such as slots and customer service, significantly enriching the experience we provide for visitors.”

Combatting Human Trafficking Through Mandatory Training
In conjunction with casino approval news, IGB has instituted regulations requiring all casino staff statewide to undergo training focused on identifying human trafficking activities.

“Human trafficking is an urgent issue that requires coordinated efforts across public and private sectors,” emphasized Marcus Fruchter, Administrator of IGB. “Casinos frequently find themselves unwittingly targeted by traffickers due to their nature as hospitality hubs.”

He further explained that it is essential for regulatory bodies like IGB to push these initiatives forward—to mandate thorough human trafficking recognition training—and ensure that effective reporting mechanisms are put in place.

Seeking Public Feedback on Cashless Wagering Innovations
The IGB is currently inviting community input regarding plans for integrating cashless wagering into video gaming environments and incorporating video gambling into its Self-Exclusion Program dedicated to assisting problem gamblers. Comments on these important topics must be submitted by January 13, 2025; interested individuals may do so via the IGB website.

For those experiencing issues related to problem gambling, supportive services can be accessed through calls made to 800-GAMBLER or texting GAMB to 833234.

Construction work on the Collinsville casino project is earmarked to kick off at the beginning of 2025 with an anticipated launch scheduled for April—just in time for one of horse racing’s most prestigious events: the Kentucky Derby.

Currently, Illinois boasts a thriving gaming landscape featuring fifteen operational casinos alongside fifteen approved sportsbooks plus an extensive network exceeding 8,700 licensed video gaming locations.
