Eddie Howe has heaped praise on teenage talent Trevan Sanusi, explaining how the 17-year-old winger has “excited” him this summer and “made a good impression.”
After impressing in our U18 and U21 sides – also featuring in our UEFA Youth League campaign last season – Sanusi has been with the first team for our training camp in Germany and came off the bench to feature in recent friendlies against Hull City and Urawa Red Diamonds.
The England Under-17 international has had an impressive first 12 months on Tyneside since arriving from Birmingham City last summer. Howe has hailed his talent, trickery and intelligence on the ball, but hints that we’ll be patient with the teenager given the physicality of Premier League football.
Speaking to the Gazette, Howe said: “He’s definitely got talent. He’s very clever with the ball, he’s got lots of tricks in his bank that he can pull out from time to time.
“I’m excited by him, I think he’s got the basics of a really good framework to build from and it’s going to be up to us and him to develop those skills and talents.
“Certainly the Premier League is a totally different beast physically and that’s something he’s going to have to continuously work on but for someone so young I think he’s made a good impression.”
