Former President Donald Trump has been under intense scrutiny for his efforts to undermine the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. While Democrats have been vocal in denouncing Trump’s actions as a threat to American democracy, Republicans have now turned the tables by using the same argument against Democrats, especially following Biden’s decision to step down from the race.
During a speech in Radford, Virginia, JD Vance pointed out that Biden’s withdrawal effectively invalidated the results of the Democratic primaries. He highlighted the tally of primary votes, stating, “Democrats are willing to discard 14 million ballots and not elect Kamala Harris but handpick Kamala Harris instead.” This move, according to Vance, poses a significant threat to the integrity of the American democratic process.
Vance also urged Democratic voters to switch their allegiance to the Republican Party, emphasizing that Democratic leadership does not truly value their votes. He stated, “If you participated in the Democratic primaries, they do not care about your opinion because they do not care about who you voted for. I extend an invitation to join the Republican Party.”
It is important to note that primaries and caucuses are not a part of the US Constitution. These processes are essentially party-led elections, often carried out in coordination with state authorities and governed by state regulations, to help determine the party’s official nominee.
