New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman says his team will “be open-minded to a lot of different things” ahead of the July 30 trade deadline (h/t YES Network.)

“We definitely have areas to improve upon and we’ll do our best to do so,” Cashman said.

The Yankees GM added: “Hopefully we can add some outside pieces that will benefit us at some point.”

The Yankees have gone 5-15 over their last 20 games heading into Tuesday and could be in search of bullpen help. The club sits on top of the AL Wild Card standings but has slipped three games back of the Baltimore Orioles for the AL East lead.

The New York club remains in a postseason spot because their offense, bolstered by the offseason acquisition of Juan Soto, led them to a blistering start that was good for the best record in the MLB as recently as mid-June.

“Thankfully, we got out of the gates really strong, so hopefully that cushion will allow us to work through this, hopefully sooner than later, because it’s gone on long enough,” Cashman said.

Cashman declined to answer which areas the Yankees would specifically be targeting at the deadline but did talk some about the team’s pitching struggles. The club’s rotation has a 6.44 ERA since June 13, the worst over that stretch in the entire MLB (h/t YES Network).

“You’ve just got to fight through it,” Cashman said. “I think our guys are up to that task.”

One potential trade target for the Yankees is White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet, a former ace who headed into Tuesday leading the AL with 146 strikeouts amid his breakout starting season.

The New York Post‘s Jon Heyman said that Crochet is a “coveted” trade target of the Yankees along with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles and San Diego Padres.

Heyman noted that the Yankees “still seem unwilling to part with” outfield prospect Spencer Jones, the No. 2 prospect in the team’s farm system, and that this might be a problem if the White Sox insist on receiving Jones in return for Crochet.

The Athletic’s Will Sammon, Katie Woo and Patrick Mooney also reported at the end of June that a league source said the Yankees “recently had a noticeable scouting presence” around the Chicago Cubs. The Yankees could decide to target players like pitcher Jameson Taillon or center fielder Cody Bellinger, whom USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports could hit the trade market if Chicago decides to sell at the deadline.
